RPC Business 1 – Lesson 5 Assignment

This is a list of the five things I believe to be my primary callings in life:

  1. Raise a family that will never depart from faithfully following The Messiah Jesus Christ. Train the next generation (my children) to be God fearing, and marry a virtuous woman.  While the future is in the hand of us now, we need to be future minded. Someday we will have kids, and the future will be in their hands. If we aren’t’ conscious and making preparation for that day when shift begins, our society will fall apart, as it’s already begun to do. The family is the foundation of America, and if the family goes, so does America. Raising Godly children needs to be the chief concern of every Christian; and your wife plays the largest role in that. Those two things are my greatest calling, and highest concern.
  2. Expand the church in America, but especially Texas. How can we “disciple all nations” if our own homeland rejects God?
  3. Texas politics. Fight for the liberty of Texans, and expansion of the federalist (anti-federalist during 1787) agenda: Decentralization of power. Also promote Austrian economics along with promoting the biblical model for foreign policy and the border.
  4. Provide funding for the translation of the bible into all languages. This is crucial for humanity.
  5. Give the homeless in Texas opportunity to work, and provide lodging for them. If they are willing to work, they may. Set up some kind of organization dedicated to this.

As Dr. Gary North points out, it’s important to have a general idea of what career path you’d like to take as soon as possible. As soon as you know, you can start taking the necessary steps in order to succeed in that field.

This is my list of five job ideas and why I’ve chosen them:

  1. Private equity.

To me this sounds appealing. Producing returns to investors through leveraged buy outs of established profitable companies, and real estate investing. Charlie Munger (Warren Buffett’s right-hand man) prefers just investing in “good” companies, rather than trying to fix bad ones. That makes me slightly lean toward the Leveraged buy outs side of Private equity as opposed to Venture Capital.

2. Venture Capital

Investing in start-ups. I also find this very interesting. Even though it is a part of private equity as a whole, I’m undecided if the LBOs or Venture Capital are the way to go.

3. Equity Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT)

The beauty of REITs is that they utilize a similar model as Private Equity, managing a pool of capital from investors, but there aren’t any fees. With REITs you simply (by law) give ninety percent of taxable profits to your investors in the form of dividends, and profit the rest.

4. Hospitality

Texas hospitality. The industry of making people fat. The one thing hospitality has over private equity, is private equity is known to be stressful at times. You’re dealing with other peoples’ money, so a bad investment will get everyone angry at you. Hospitality deals with giving people joy and comfort.

5. Media

All of the major media outlets are completely corrupt. There isn’t real legitimate journalism. Free speech doesn’t exist. It’s sickening and disgusting. This is being partially solved through the internet with independent journalism which is why it’s last on my list. Also, I’ve always been a story teller, which fits in with the fictional aspect of media.

To summarize, I believe my first calling is at home with the family. After that, it is the expansion of Christ’s kingdom and Texas politics. As for as my job, I’m undecided but leaning towards Private Equity.
